Who are we?

The mission of the Association de l’Agrotourisme et du Tourisme Gourmand du Québec is to bring together and promote producers and owners of establishments working in agri-tourism and food tourism, and at the same time, develop and improve quality in the businesses and in the sector, and encourage dialogue and networking. With the aim of promoting quality development at these establishments and offering the clientele products and services that meet their requirements, the Association has established certification programs that award these establishments a seal of quality. The Association, under the name Fédération des Agricotours du Québec, has been making its mark on the tourist landscape for 35 years, through the development and promotion of certifications for accommodation, agri-tourism and food service.

These certification programs, founded on a promise given to customers, involve a detailed selection process based on standards for high quality. Thus, establishments wishing to acquire a distinction of quality, and able to meet the standards set by the program, can obtain one of the following certifications:

Certified Gîte du Passant - Bed & Breakfast

Certified Auberge du Passant - Country Inn

Certified Table aux Saveurs du Terroir - Terroir Cuisine

Certified Relais du Terroir - Farm Shop

Certified Table Champêtre - Country-style Dining

Certified Ferme Découverte - Farm Shop

Certified Maison de Campagne - Country Home

Certified Maison de Ville - City Home

Some of these certifications are trademarks. Thus, the names Gite du Passant (Bed & Breakfast), Auberge du Passant (Country Inn), Table aux Saveurs du Terroir (Terroir Cuisine), Table Champêtre (Country-style Dining) and Relais du Terroir (Farm Shop) are reserved for the exclusive use of establishments certified by the Fédération des Agricotours du Québec.

Each year, a proprietor who wishes to maintain his certification can only do so if the conditions of his certification contract have been respected. Monitoring methods, such as evaluation forms and inspection visits, have therefore been implemented to make sure that the standards for certification are being met on a continuing basis, and, by the same token, to guarantee the promise given to our customers. Each of our certified establishments erects one of the signs illustrated below outside their establishment.
For a list of the establishments certified by the Association de l’Agrotourisme et du Tourisme Gourmand du Québec, two Web sites are available: www.inns-bb.com and www.terroircuisineandproducts.com

The first lists these certified establishments: Gite du Passant (Bed & Breakfast), Auberge du Passant (Country Inn), Maison de Campagne ou de Ville (City or Country Home). The guide is available in all fine bookstores, but you can also order a copy online.
A little history…

During the ‘70s, the Association de l’Agrotourisme et du Tourisme Gourmand du Québec (formerly the Fédération des Agricotours du Québec) was an innovator in the tourist accommodation industry in Québec, proposing a concept for leisure and “bed & breakfast” on a farm.  Initially, the accommodation consisted of bed & breakfast (B&B) and camping on a farm. The keen interest in the bed & breakfast formula quickly progressed to offering the concept in both a rural and an urban setting. From these beginnings, the Gîtes du Passant (Bed & Breakfast), Auberge du Passant (Country Inn) and Maison de Campagne ou de Ville (City or Country Home) certifications were developed. In order to increase contact with the farmer and promote farm products, the Association also developed formulas for agri-tourism activities with its Table Champêtre (Country-style Dining), Ferme Découverte (Farm Exploration) and Relais du Terroir (Farm Shop) certifications. With the Table aux Saveurs du Terroir (Terroir Cuisine) certification in 2006, the Association is continuing to develop its high quality offer, this time by proposing a food service concept that showcases Québec’s terroir products.

The Fédération has a presence right across the province of Québec, and is helping to develop the offer of high-quality tourism and agritourism in Québec.
